Fees

A typical doctor's consultation costs about 200 pesos at the doctor's clinic, and about 1,000 pesos at the hospital. Professional services, billed separately from consultations and visits, far exceed this.

Appointments

In almost all cases, you can't make an appointment to see a physician at a certain time. You can't, for instance, call up and set an appointment for 10:30. The standard system is first come, first served. However, you don't have to wait at the doctor's office the whole time. You can drop by before the doctor arrives, and get in line; if you're the first one to show up that day and the doctor shows up at 11:00, then you'll have your consultation at 11:00. Some doctors - not all, only some - allow their receptionists to accept bookings by phone; you'll be told you're, say, No. 15 when you call up.

Most dentists, meanwhile, usually do allow you to make an appointment for a specific time.

But don't worry; there is hope. There are some excellent dentists in Cebu. Recommended to us a Wa'y Blima! Cebu user, and tried and tested by Wa'y Blima! Cebu staff, Dr Deborah Go recently got back from California, and as far as we can tell she's in a different league from everyone else, not only in terms of the speed at which she works but also the quality of her construction work. You might actually find that you look forward to your visit to the dentist. Incredibly, Dr Go charges average local rates.

Another good dentist Dr Famador, in Sanciangko, though she tends to be late for appointments. The Lims at the Cocomall are also excellent, according to from what we've heard. In fact, the Cocomall, near Cebu Doc, is a particularly good place to find a dentist, being packed with dentists and dental equipment dealers.
