The toko, a mid-sized lizard, is a common sight in Cebu's homes. It moves with incredible speed and is even more afraid of humans than humans are of it. At night, the toko's distinctive cry echoes loudly through the neighborhood at regular intervals. The cry is usually repeated about five times, and the last cry peters out into a croak as the animal runs out of breath: "Tuck-ooo! Tuck-ooo! Tuck-ooo! Tuck-ooo! Tuck-ooo! Tuck-oooooo..." The toko has razor-like sharp teeth which can cause a deep and painful wound on your finger, but attacks humans only when they are trying to catch it.
